1st Edition Edits or Art Edition Edits - What does it mean?

I get asked quite regularly what does your proofing mean.  In my packages people get whats called 1st edition edits & then after they pick a few of their favorites we go to the art edition edit stage.  I thought I’d give everyone a pictorial representation of what this means.  I was at a bridal show this weekend and found that having a printed page with these levels of editing made it really easy for clients to see what I was talking about.

So here are a few samples:
Camera Raw - is well what comes off the camera
1st Edition Edits - have been colour corrected and adjusted to make the photo look the way I see it in my head
Art Edition Edits - have that fashion retouching edge to them.  Skin smoothing, eye brightening, basically a more detailed edit of your image
Master Art Edition Edits - are what I like to do to make the photo more than just a portrait, it really does turn things into a work of art.  This edit is usually done based on what I see the photo to be in its finished stage  The master edits tend to be what most will print on canvas or aluminum for final art piece.

OK, enough talking here are what they would look like:retouch3.jpg

    Hi Nancy,

Great Job. Trish and I have discussed doing this same thing when meeting clients. Education is key for clients to understand the amount of work that goes into professional photography and why it cost what it does.
